In September of 2023, I began working on producing this benefit album, Silver Patron Saints, to raise money for the Jesse Malin Sweet Relief fund. I ended up co-producing the record with David Bason, with help and support from Danny Clinch and Alex Coletti. Glassnote Records/The Orchard volunteered to release the album with 100% proceeds going to Jesse Malin. This album showed the world how compassionate and united artists are. They came out easily for their friend in need and it was a heartbreaking experience to witness the love for Jesse that was extended to him by them all.

Most of the artists recorded these songs in their own studios. Most of them chose songs they wanted to do, and of course, we offered up some suggestions. Geoff Sanoff (Renegade Studios) was a godsend and mixed several tracks, as well as getting Little Steven to play on one of the songs. Daniel Sanit at Flux Studios helped us get some studio time when we needed it - for artists who suddenly became available. Margaret Kramer was right there offering up their studio out in Northern California for Tom Morello, Mike Watt and Joey C. Fred Kevorkian mastered the entire project, for free.

I am proud to have my name on the back of a record that was so instrumental in helping to get Jesse through a crisis year of intensive stem cell and physical therapy. There is no one more brave, to venture to Buenos Aires to a clinic with very few known successes, for a year, almost blindly, in a paraplegic state, as he did. The power of music is exceptional in providing motivation and inspiration, belief and love. That’s what this record did. It helped get him back on stage again.

Big thanks to every artist who recorded for this album, to their managers, to their lawyers, to the record labels and publishing companies who signed waivers. Big thanks to the kind folks at Glassnote and the Orchard. Big thanks to my co-producer David Bason, to Fred Kevorkian, Daniel Sanit and Geoff Sanoff. Big thanks to Jesse Malin’s musicians who were there in a heartbeat to play when needed. Big thanks to Jesse who writes such really great songs.

Buying this record goes right to Jesse Malin. The lineup is scary great and it’s a beautiful thng to do.

The 2020s have been an era rife with throwbacks in rock music, but while Diane & The Gentle Men’s “Walk with Me” has a neo-chic characteristic that might lead some journalists to lump the crew in with retro culture, I think their style is just a bit more complex than that.
